First time in Cannon beach with my family. Ok so here we go...the service was excellent, food was great, cleanliness was ok and vibe sucked. It was awkward quiet in there. I suggested music to the waitress. She said they usually do but not that day. Overall this place is a solid 4. I will be a returning costumer next time I'm in the area.

I would give this place a 4 star but I ordered the Cadillac Margarita and they were out of the grand mariner so I settled for the Zombie drink and it was very good! Went in just for a snack and the chicken nachos were nice. Lots of shredded chicken but lacked refried beans, should have had more of a serving of beans. The service was good, the salsa was spicy and good. I would go back.

We tried to eat next door at the caribbean place but it was too busy so we came here. The food was pleasantly good. This was pretty authentic Mexican food. I had the scallops with diavolo sauce and the sauce was nice and spicy. The dish was pretty big. Overall, everything we had was good and the service was attentive.

We stumbled across this little hidden gem on a family road trip. The two gentlemen running the front of the house put a few tables together to accommodate our large party in no time. As we were seated I immediately noticed the large oversized menus with the pictures to match, leading me to believe this was going to be another cheap and cheese laden Mexican food bomb. I couldn't have been any more wrong! I love these little surprises. Yes my expectations were already low and yes it was a calorie bomb, but my God Mexican food done right is great in so many ways. Especially if the service is on par. These guys were attentive, professional, and warm. The food, ESP at this price point, delivered on every level. This place is a hidden gem!

All we had were margaritas on a sunny day, but great margaritas!

  • Kate W.

The salsa and chips were edible. The rest of the food looked and tasted like they had dumped food out of a can, mixed it with generous amounts of grease and plopped it on the plate. I literally took ONE bite. She picked it up, asked if she could box it up for me, no offer to bring something else or discount. I never ask for discounts or freebies. I just figure it cost me $20 for complimentary chips and salsa and a beverage. Oh well. Other than not addressing the fact that I only took one bite of my food, the server was attentive and friendly. The place was a mess. I was there late afternoon, place was empty but tables needed bussing.

Overpriced, sub-par Mexican food. The asada tacos were dry, the enchiladas and burritos were bland, the chips tasted stale. And I know everything in beach towns is expensive, but this food isn't worth their beach premium prices. I would be surprised if they made it through the winter. Look elsewhere.

I have never been so did satisfied with a meal before in my life. I ordered a tamale and a super burrito. My burrito was far super. It was flat and my carne asada was over cooked. The salsa tasted like crappy tomato soup. Then to pay as much as I did for something that didn't taste half as good as a microwave burrito was disheartening. If I could have given less stars I would.

Terrible food. Terrible drinks. Bad encounter with management. If you are craving Mexican, wait until you are in another city. If you are trying to find a less expensive place to eat, pay more. . . It will be worth it!! After my husband received the wrong type of taco (meat instead of beans) and my veggie burrito tasted like seafood, the server referred us to the manager. She was very aggressive and argued with us over the issues. We were very surprised when she only charged us for one meal, but I would gladly pay for 2 meals if it doesn't mean being treated like a liar. Don't go!!

We had a good experience here. We ate outside on a beautiful weekday afternoon. Our server was friendly and helpful. Most other staff members did not speak English. My boyfriend is fluent in Spanish and I speak a little, too, and I think they enjoyed that we made the attempt to communicate with them. The food portions are BIG. The food tasted good, but you should expect something authentic and not a Baja Fresh-style meal. A few vegetarian options. I didn't try any cocktails, but the list sure looked tempting.

Don't eat here! We only tried it because Castaways Tiki bar wasn't open yet. Waited 20 min for a drink order. 20 min later some Luke warm coronas arrived. Bail while you still can to the lumberyard next door. Unfortunately we stayed, we should have left before our order arrived like most of the other diners. Diner beware!

Like this place! Cannon Beach needs a place like this to spruce up their usual restaurants. We went in on a Monday night and we were onto about one of five families in there. We were greeted and served by a very nice waiter who was good with our kids and was very nice. I ordered the two burritos with beans on the side. It was good.......not terrible yet not incredible. Overall, I enjoyed myself and the food, but now onto the cons of the place. First, seating was a little small, even though it wasn't packed and it was raining, it must be hard on a Friday night in January! Also, there wasn't any music being played, which you think isn't a huge deal but when the place isn't hoppin' it's kinda awkward being able to literally hear other customers' forks hit their plates. Again, other than that I had a good experience, will be back, and recommend it!

Uncooked chicken served to my son, general tasteless slop. Don't waste your time. Ate here because we had our dog with us-out side picnic table seating.

We have been eating Mexican Food for over 50 years from California. This is the worst Mexican food we have ever had in 50 years. They don't even know how to make Spanish rice. Their service is was incredibly slow. Save your money and don't eat at this place no matter what. I work in the food service business and tend to have a forgiving heart for food servers and the business in general. Really bad food!!!

My experience was very much like Andrea H.'s was. The tables that were not bussed for long periods of time while we were there, the unclean and unstocked bathrooms...even down to the lack of hand soap. And we watched an employee go in to use the bathroom while we were there, knowing that there was no hand soap, and watched her come out wiping her wet hands on her t-shirt. So I thought, "great, she must have just put hand soap in," so I went in to wash my hands and nope...no soap. I didn't even want to eat the rest of my meal at that point. Which didn't matter much because the food wasn't worth eating anyway. I agree with the reviewer that Taco Bell is better. The margaritas were even bad...(and believe me I wanted to have several to forget the rest of the experience). But I wasn't lucky there either. They were clearly from a mix of sorts, and too much sour mix to make it even drinkable. I honestly don't like to give negative reviews...but this place was so bad, I feel I have to warn others before they go in on a whim and blow $50 on a horrible experience.

Great service! The people working here are super friendly and always came by at the right time to refill drinks and cops. Comfortable atmosphere with music on at a great volume, nice tables. We came by a little later in the evening and the restaurant wasn't too busy-- a couple behind us and a family across the way. Great food-- I had the steal fajitas-- muy delicioso! Would definitely recommend!

Don't get the salad. Really bad. Margaritas just mix with Cuervo gold. Our friends had burritos and they liked it ok.

  • Posh IN P.

Gosh. Place was decent, in appearance. We sat outside on a beautiful sunny day. Ordered the margarita and the asada (steak) nachos. Boy. Mistake. Drinking the margarita--well, it tasted like cleaning fluid met weeks-old cheap margarita mix that had been kept in a big, old cauldron, behind the restroom. I decided to drink it, though, hoping the tequila would kill anything that this drink was trying to alter in my biology. We then ate the asada nachos. Sour cream was weird. Didn't taste like dairy. It was off. Guacamole was so green, it had to be a dye. Steak was weird. I thought for a second we were eating some other animal, not a cow. Listen--I'm pretty easy with Mexican food, Taco Bell can even satiate me, but this place, I'm telling you, one yelper to another--unless they get a food lobotomy, just don't go.

    (1)
  • Tracy M.

Megan, Taco Bell is ten times better than this place. Just left there and couldn't wait to get gum in my mouth to get rid of the taste. Yes, it really was that bad. The workers were very nice and I feel bad for this review because they were so nice. But I must be true to my fellow Yelpers. We are traveling down the Oregon Coast and one member of our party wanted an enchilada. Simple cheese enchilada. Instead of charging us the lower price for the cheese and onion (we wanted cheese minus the onion but this was confusing for them) she charged us for the higher priced meat ones. The food had no flavor and the salsa tasted like sugar was in it. All of us hated our food because there was no flavor in the beans, rice, sauces, etc. Expensive too! Don't waste your money on this place.

    (1)
  • Kurt W.

We stopped here mainly because it was open when other places weren't, and we were pleasantly surprised by the huge menu, the Mexican Coca Cola (the kind with actual sugar instead of corn syrup) and the tastiness of our entrees. The food was simple but tasty, the service was very pleasant and also quick with our entrees, and the outdoor tables were great on a sunny day.

    (4)
  • Tina P.

We were the only patrons there the afternoon we ate here, service was polite but didn't go out of their way. Restroom was clean. Average chips/salsa (not homemade). The shrimp fajitas was 95% a plate full of grilled onions in sauce. So many onions that they should rename that offering Major Onion Fajitas. The onions just overpowered any and all other flavors that might have been in the dish and, yes, my stomach paid for it dearly later. We will not eat here again...not what we expected for a trendy town like Cannon Beach.

I don't know if I would go so low as to compare this restaurant to Taco Bell as another person did. I give them much more credit than that. After driving from Portland to Cannon Beach without stopping, I seriously had to go pee. I stopped at the first place, which happened to be here. The food was so-so. I will sum it up for you: overpriced Mexican food that is just okay. The portion size and taste of the food was not good enough given the price. However, I thought the service was very good. Eating outside on their lush green lawn also was enjoyable. I thought it was funny how the server said "Hola" each time he stopped by to fill up my water or bring me more chips. Haha, gringo chica thinks it's funny when we say Hola! Yes, I did. If you have time, search around Cannon Beach a bit for food with more flavor. If you don't, no biggie. It was still good.

Happened to stumble upon this place before we went hiking. I was pleasantly surprised to find a decent Mexican restaurant along the Oregon coast. I'm from LA so I've been spoiled by great authentic Mexican cuisine and this place was A-OK in my book. The service was awesome and the decor was quaint and cozy. Their food was alright, it could have used a little more spice but the portions are very generous. We ordered the Chorizo con Huevos and the Super Al Pastor Nachos and we left happy and our bellies full.

Mediocre at best. Typical bad Americanized "Mexican" food. The place we wanted to go had an hour wait- we should have waited! Fish tacos were bland. The salsa was very good.

We decided to have a late dinner so we walked to this restaurant at around eight and saw that they were open till nine. My wife asked if they were still serving food and the person in charge actually asked the cook if the kitchen was still open. Immediately, we felt like lepers in a tanning salon, unwelcome and out of place. They took us in anyway and we ordered up some burritos and tacos. Our kids didn't mind the place - chips and salsa before the meal, and their bean and cheese burrito was bland enough to tickle their taste buds. For the adults, the chips and salsa were cold, and the food would appeal to perhaps someone who's never had Mexican, due to its lack of flavor. At least it wasn't too pricey.

I'm not sure why I thought that a random Mexican restaurant in a tourist town in Oregon would be any good. Maybe hunger pangs were stoking my optimism. And I've gotten lucky on the Oregon coast before. I sure didn't get lucky this time. My first twinge of unease hit when I peeked into the kitchen on the way to our table. It looked messy and not so clean. Then I noticed that a bunch of tables were covered with the leftovers of previous diners. But my rumbling stomach drowned out my gut feelings, and I averted my eyes. I knew we were in trouble when I entered the bathroom to wash my hands. The soap dispenser was empty--an unnerving void in a restaurant, though 10-15 pumps yielded enough soap residue to get my hands clean. The toilet paper dispenser needed refilling. And there were other bathroom maintenance issues that I refuse to even think about, much less address in writing. So when we ordered I mentioned the bathroom problems to our server. 20 minutes later, before our food arrived, my husband took my daughter back to wash her hands. Still nobody had tended to the bathroom. Eventually, our food arrived. 5-10 minutes later, our server dropped a load of napkins and utensils on the table. Hooray, napkins! It would have been nice to have had them half an hour earlier, when we were eating the salsa and chips (which, by the way, were tasty and the only bright point of our El Mariachi Loco III Mexican Restaurant experience). Once we had silverware and were able to start eating our food, I wished it hadn't arrived and we could just have gone elsewhere. Their chef must think that grease is a good substitute for flavor. I would never have imagined that pollo en mole and camarones a la diabla could be so tasteless, even not accounting for the total lack of heat. (How the heck can Devil Shrimp be bland?) The shrimp had been cooked until they were practically unrecognizable, and the chicken must have come from a bird that had set a new record in poultry longevity. The corn tortillas were fine, but the quantity was not adequate for the meals, and our server never reappeared so that we could request more. Maybe Labor Day weekend was the wrong time to visit El Mariachi Loco. But I won't be going back to find out.

Go to Taco Bell. Go for pizza. Don't go here. I got a chimi and it was basically a frozen bean burrito with cheese, sour cream and quac thrown on top. The rice was good but the beans well, lets just say I tasted them for the next 24 hours. YUCK

Perhaps it was my super low expectations of this unassuming place on Cannon Beach but I was pleasantly surprised. Beginning with the fresh chips and salsa, everything was superb. I ordered the Tostadas Camerones (Shrimp Tostadas) and the Seafood Enchiladas. The flavors were fresh and well constructed and the portions were hearty. The only negative was that it was not as spicy as I prefer but hate to ding a restaurant for personal preference. Nice outdoor seating for the sun enthusiasts and a great bar menu for those looking to imbibe.

not a lot of places to eat up here in the boonies...glad there's a decent Mexican restaurant to go to...service is outstanding and should be a clue to these other places up here on how you perform customer service...salsa is pretty good and I love their rice...my go to dish involves a fried egg on an enchilada and it's really really good...only place I've been able to find it at...

My daughter and I were capping off a week-long leisurely adventure along the Oregon coast with shopping and dinner in Cannon Beach. She was set on Mexican food, so we got directions to El Mariachi Loco. Decor was bright, colorful, and clean. Got warm chips and mild salsa--very tasty! Ice water in goblets was a nice touch. Had our orders taken quickly, and received our meals in a timely manner (but not so fast you wonder if everything is preassembled and thrown in the microwavce). I had chicken ranchero enchiladas, which came with sides of rice and refried beans (black beans are available for a little extra), and are topped by an egg overeasy. Chicken was white meat, moist and flavorful. Although the red sauce was a little bland, the meal was hot, fresh, and delicious. My daughter ordered her standard meal: cheese enchiladas with rice and beans; her answer when I asked her how it was? Big thumbs up--she was so busy eating she couldn't respond verbally. So, with full bellies and smiles on our faces, we journeyed home!

Do NOT eat here! The food was disgusting and overpriced for horrible, touristy mexican food. The staff was extremely difficult. I wanted a chicken enchilada and a beef taco, but they wouldn't make it for me. I had to have both chicken or both beef. My husband wanted plain chicken tacos, but our waitress said they didn't have that and recommended some chicken taco plate that was covered in a greasy sauce. A horrible experience that left us both feeling awful.

YUCK

not a lot of places to eat up here in the boonies...glad there's a decent Mexican restaurant to go to...service is outstanding and should be a clue to these other places up here on how you perform customer service...salsa is pretty good and I love their rice...my go to dish involves a fried egg on an enchilada and it's really really good...only place I've been able to find it at...

The staff was nice but the food was bad. I ordered shrimp and it tasted like it had freezer burn. I'm a mexican food lover and would never go here again. I hate giving bad reviews...

Avoid at all cost, unless you want to study how not to run a restaurant.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
